Taking on the challenge

29 Nov, 2022

Every year, Sailors' Society's dedicated team reaches out to 200,000 seafarers, their families and wider community, providing care, welfare and support. But we can only do what we do through the generosity of our supporters.

Ex-seafarer and Inmarsat Maritime Senior VP Peter Broadhurst is just such one of these. As a Sailors' Society Ambassador and a long-term supporter, Peter was keen to take on a new challenge in our aid, and has signed up to take on the world-famous TCS London Marathon with #TeamSailorsSociety on 23 April 2023.

Peter said: "Running the TCS London Marathon 2023 is a challenge, as is the world we live in today, but the money I raise will all be going to a great charity that will support our seafarers across the world."

Having worked on ships and in the industry for many years, Peter well understands the highs and lows that working at sea can bring.

He continued: "Since my time working at sea, and post-Covid19, providing support for our seafarers could not be more important. I’ve been an Ambassador for Sailors’ Society for over six years. Having seen first-hand Sailors’ Society's work, the welfare they provide and the appreciation that crews have for this, I am proud to support them in any way I can.

"I've had a varied career in maritime and, at Inmarsat, have been close to seafarers from my work with safety services. While I work for a technology company, I recognise that it is the people that makes the maritime industry tick."
