Registrations are now open for Sailors‘ Society 2024 Cadet Conferences – Wellbeing skills for future seafarers

With virtual events for cadets in North Asia, South East Asia, Africa and in the UK and Europe expected to attract over 6,000 participants, registrations have now opened for the fourth year of these highly acclaimed Sailors‘ Society Wellness at Sea cadet conferences.

With the 2023 conferences revealing that less than a quarter of that year’s cadets had been to sea and the overwhelming majority asking for this to become a mandatory part of the curriculum at all maritime schools, these virtual events aim to reshape cadet wellbeing education and equip this next generation of seafarers with the wellness skills they need for their future seafaring career.

Cadet Rachel Afriyie, who attended the global maritime charity’s 2023 conferences said: “Stepping aboard the conference felt like stepping onto a different kind of vessel – one dedicated to navigating the uncharted waters of seafarer wellbeing.”

Like Rachel, the class of 2024 will be able to immerse themselves in a virtual conference centre. They will experience interactive sessions and practical advice as well as presentations from key regional and global industry leaders and influencers.

Sessions in the main auditorium will include a Q&A session with a top industry leader, a session on handling bullying and diversity and developing skills to build onboard and ship-to-shore relationships.

Cadets can also browse the exhibition hall with its virtual stands showcasing the work of the global charity and a selection of leading maritime companies.

Sailors’ Society CEO, Sara Baade, said: “These conferences are a must for any maritime student and we are hugely grateful to our sponsors for helping us to secure these events for cadets across the globe.”

This year the North Asia event is being sponsored by Seaspan, while Britannia P&I Club and Tindall Riley are sponsoring the South East Asia event.

The conference dates are:

North Asia – August 22

Africa – September 19

South East Asia – October 5

UK and Europe – November 6
