Sea Sunday 2020

Supporting the key workers of the sea

Every year, churches around the world celebrate Sea Sunday: remembering seafarers in prayer, giving thanks for the crucial work they do and supporting them by donating to Sailors’ Society’s work. Sea Sunday 2020 is on July 12, but you can mark the day on any Sunday of the year.

This year, we’re asking you to remember seafarers as they play a vital role in the fight against COVID-19. They’re not just keeping our supermarket shelves stocked through the crisis, but they’re also transporting PPE and vital medical equipment to keep the world safe.

The sacrifices they’re making are greater than ever; with global travel restrictions in force, many seafarers are faced with the anxious reality of being stranded thousands of miles from home when their contract ends, not knowing when or how they will be able to return to their loved ones.

With so many churches in lockdown, we’ve made a short video about how the pandemic is affecting seafarers, which you can share with your church on social media or add into your service, whether it’s online or in a church building.
