Coining it in with cruise ship donations

22 Sep, 2023

We are delighted to have received an extraordinary cash donation from a generous cruise ship crew.

Four people (including Sailors' Society's Kirsty pictured) were needed to carry the huge number of coins from currencies across the world, weighing 137 kilograms.

The donation from the Crystal Serenity also included vintage coins dating back to the 1950s and 1960s and even some casino chips.

Among the currencies included were notes and coins from Australia, New Zealand, French Polynesia, the United States, Canada, Denmark, China, South Korea, Greece, and Japan.

Sailors' Society's CEO Sara Baade said: “Everyone at Sailors’ Society is immensely grateful to all those unknown individuals who have kindly donated these coins to us. Every penny we collect helps us to support seafarers and their families across the globe.”
