Sailors' Society's unique new wellness platform launches today

5 Jul, 2023

A unique e-learning programme that puts positive wellbeing in the hands of seafarers is being launched today July 5 by international maritime charity Sailors’ Society.

With funding contributions from Norden and Trinity House, the fun, interactive platform with animations, podcasts and quizzes is being offered free of charge and works on and offline to ensure seafarers everywhere can access the charity’s award-winning Wellness at Sea programme.

Available on a phone, tablet or laptop, it provides seafarers with tools and resources they can apply to daily life. It is designed to educate and empower seafarers to make the changes they need to see a positive impact on their health and wellbeing, allowing them to live a happier, healthier and more fulfilling life at sea.

Six modules cover a wide range of topics to help seafarers manage mental and emotional strain, improve personal and professional relationships and look after their finances and physical and mental fitness. Everyone who completes the course is awarded a certificate.

Sailors’ Society CEO, Sara Baade said: “We are so proud and excited to launch this platform today. We think this is a game changer in getting wellness coaching into the hands of all seafarers, wherever they are and whether they have good connectivity or not. This programme brings together our many years of expertise and experience in providing practical solutions to maritime welfare.

“We have designed our e-learning to help combat the real issues faced by the 1.89 million seafarers who bring us more than 90 per cent of everything we use and own, issues like fatigue, poor mental health and stress that can really affect their daily lives.

“We wanted to provide something that seafarers needed, but also something they would enjoy learning from at their own pace, whenever and wherever that might be.”
